Clients book portrait sessions for many different reasons. New parents are often looking to document the arrival of a baby, families need portraits for holiday cards, couples use photos to announce their engagement... I love that my art can serve in all of these areas! One of my favorite reasons for a client to request a portrait session is to give as a gift. There's nothing sweeter, nothing more personal, than a timeless memory of the people you love. I love teaming up with clients to make magic happen for their loved ones, whether it be for a birthday, Mother's Day or Father's Day, Christmas, or just because!
Meet Katie and Lauren. They booked a session with me last year as a Christmas gift for their mom.
In this relaxed session, I got to really play around with different posing to get the comfortable, fun, sister vibe going. Lauren and Katie are both so beautiful and naturally photogenic, I didn't have to do much coaching. We spent a lot of time talking and giggling as I snapped away.
"Our favorite thing about the session," says Katie, "was getting to goof off and spend time with each other and with Kayla."
The girls chose brilliant colors for these portraits. The coral and green complemented each other perfectly and looked fabulous in the greenroom at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Along with posed shots of the girls together, we spent some time getting individual shots of each of them for their mom. Let's face it, even as young adults, our mamas want to freeze time and remember us exactly the way we are, just like when we were babies.
Katie says this shot is her favorite from the session. "It not only captures me and my sister," she says, "but I love the colors in the background, and I love how it all works together. I also love the way Kayla placed us in the picture. We are bad about doing the same 'pose' in every picture, so this 'pose' Kayla asked us to do was different and something that felt awkward doing but looked super cute in the end."
Of course, the opinion that matters most is that of the person receiving the gift... So what did Mom think? Katie's answer made me so happy!
"When our mom saw the pictures, she bawled. Our mom is someone who loves pictures and loves pictures of her girls. These pictures were a surprise to her, and so far, they have been the best Christmas gift we have ever given her. She LOVED them."
There's nothing I love more than a happy client... Except maybe a happy client's mom! Thank you to Katie and Lauren for letting me be a part of your mom's Christmas gift. I hope I get to help with many more gifts in the future!
If you are looking for the perfect gift for an upcoming special occasion, consider a portrait session with me. Mother's Day is right around the corner, after all. Let's get together to make your mama happy!
